Description

The Total Phase Beagle USB 5000 v2 SuperSpeed Protocol Analyzer, Ultimate Edition (ref. TP322610) is a USB 3.0 bus analyzer that interactively captures and analyzes USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 traffic in real time, up to 5 Gbit/s. Both buses are monitored simultaneously and non-intrusively.

With its 4 GB onboard buffer and live data streaming to the analysis computer, it keeps track of long sessions. A USB 3.0 downlink allows longer captures. Packets and error codes are displayed in real time, and the Data Center software decodes USB classes on the fly.

For advanced debugging, this edition offers state-based Match/Action triggers, link training and LTSSM state detection, digital inputs and outputs, and multi-analyzer synchronization to follow traffic across USB hubs.

Highlights

  • Simultaneous USB 3.0 and USB 2.0: non-intrusive monitoring up to 5 Gbit/s.
  • Resolution: 2 ns in USB 3.0 and 16.7 ns in USB 2.0.
  • Low-level error detection: invalid PIDs, bad CRCs, timeouts, frame sequence errors and state transition errors, among others.
  • Hardware filtering: packet suppression in USB 2.0 and 3.0.
  • Automatic handling: data scrambling, spread spectrum clocking, polarity inversion and receiver detection.
  • Advanced triggers: up to 8 independent states in USB 2.0 and USB 3.0.

Why a hardware analyzer? A software capture on the host, with usbmon or Wireshark, shows transfers as seen by the host's USB stack. The analyzer placed between the host and the device sees packets as they pass on the bus, without going through the driver you may be trying to investigate.

Frequently asked questions

Can it capture USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 at the same time?

Yes, Total Phase states simultaneous, non-intrusive monitoring of USB 3.0 and USB 2.0.

How large is the onboard buffer?

4 GB, with live data streaming to the analysis computer.

Can several analyzers be used together?

Yes, they synchronize through the HDMI connectors to follow traffic across USB hubs.

Does it support USB at 10 Gbit/s?

Total Phase states monitoring up to 5 Gbit/s. Higher rates do not appear in its specifications.

When is a Beagle USB 480 enough?

When your device does not go beyond USB 2.0, at 480 Mbit/s. The Beagle USB 480 also decodes USB classes, with a 64 MB buffer and simple triggers.

Can I install the software on a Raspberry Pi?

Total Phase specifies a computer with an Intel or AMD processor as the minimum configuration and does not list the Raspberry Pi among supported systems. So plan on a PC or Mac as your analysis computer.
