Description

The Total Phase Beagle USB 480 Protocol Analyzer (ref. TP320510) is a non-intrusive USB 2.0 High Speed bus analyzer with real-time USB class decoding. It interactively captures and displays bus states and traffic, with 16.67 ns packet-level timing.

Sound 64 MB onboard buffer absorbs sustained bursts at 480 Mbit/s without data loss. The analyzer comes with its software and a royalty-free API. It offers two capture modes: real-time or delayed download.

It automatically detects bus speed and High Speed K and J chirp sequences. It also spots suspend and resume events and unexpected signals, all useful clues when a device refuses to enumerate.

Highlights

  • Non-intrusive: monitoring of USB 2.0 Low, Full and High Speed, up to 480 Mbit/s.
  • Decoding: USB classes decoded in real time by the Data Center software.
  • Two capture modes: real-time and delayed download.
  • Large captures: traces of more than 25 GB.
  • Hardware filtering: packet suppression to reduce the captured volume.
  • External synchronization: 4 digital inputs and 4 outputs.

Why a hardware analyzer? A software capture on the host, with usbmon or Wireshark, shows transfers as seen by the host's USB stack. The analyzer placed between the host and the device sees packets as they pass on the bus, without going through the driver you may be trying to investigate.

Frequently asked questions

How does it differ from the Beagle USB 12?

The Beagle USB 480 also monitors High Speed at 480 Mbit/s. Total Phase also states a 64 MB buffer, hardware packet filtering and digital I/O for this model.

Is an external power supply required?

No, the analyzer is powered by the USB bus.

Can it capture long sessions?

Yes, Total Phase states traces of more than 25 GB.

Can I install the software on a Raspberry Pi?

Total Phase specifies a computer with an Intel or AMD processor as the minimum configuration and does not list the Raspberry Pi among supported systems. So plan on a PC or Mac as your analysis computer.
