Description
Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W: a quad-core in 65 x 30 mm
The Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W is the most compact Raspberry Pi with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. It uses exactly the same form factor as the Zero W, but with a quad-core 64-bit processor: Raspberry Pi quotes 40 % more single-core performance and five times more multi-core performance than the original Raspberry Pi Zero. It is the ideal board for embedded, portable or battery-powered projects, where every millimeter counts.
Highlights
- Four Cortex-A53 cores at 1 GHz and 512 MB of memory in a single RP3A0 package.
- 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2 / BLE built in, with an onboard antenna and modular radio certification.
- Unchanged Zero form factor : it replaces a Zero W and fits most existing Raspberry Pi Zero cases.
- CSI-2 camera connector for video and surveillance projects.
- Long-life product : production guaranteed by Raspberry Pi until at least January 2030.

Compatibility: pitfalls to avoid
- 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only : the Zero 2 W does not connect to a 5 GHz network. Make sure your router broadcasts on 2.4 GHz.
- Unsoldered GPIO : to connect a HAT, you need to add a 2 x 20-pin header, either soldered or press-fit without soldering.
- Miniature connectors : you need a mini-HDMI to HDMI cable or adapter and a micro-USB OTG adapter to connect a keyboard, mouse or USB stick.
- No DSI port : Raspberry Pi Touch Display screens cannot be connected to the Zero 2 W.
- Camera : the CSI port uses the mini 22-pin format, so you need a ribbon cable designed for Raspberry Pi Zero boards.
- 512 MB of memory : prefer Raspberry Pi OS Lite for headless use; the full desktop is still possible but slower.
Recommended accessories
- L'official Raspberry Pi 12.5 W micro-USB power supply : it delivers the recommended 5 V 2.5 A.
- The HDMI and USB adapter kit for Raspberry Pi Zero to connect a screen and a standard USB device.
- The Solderless GPIO Hammer Header to install the 40-pin header without a soldering iron.
- A case to protect the board, such as the official case for Raspberry Pi Zero.
- A SanDisk Ultra microSD card for the system.
Uses and projects
- Portable retro console : the Zero 2 W is the board designed for the GPi Case 2W ; our guide installing Recalbox on the GPi Case 2W with a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W explains the assembly in detail.
- Connected sensor : weather station, temperature readings sent over Wi-Fi.
- Compact camera : room monitoring, time-lapse, connected bird box.
- Small network server : always-on ad blocker or lightweight VPN.

Frequently asked questions
What are the dimensions of the Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W?
The board measures 65 x 30 mm, exactly like the Raspberry Pi Zero and the Zero W.
What is the difference between the Zero 2 W and the Zero W?
The form factor and connectors are identical, but the Zero 2 W goes from one to four 64-bit cores: up to five times faster in multi-core than the original Zero. Wi-Fi remains 2.4 GHz.
Does the Zero 2 W have 5 GHz Wi-Fi?
No, Wi-Fi works only on the 2.4 GHz band (802.11 b/g/n). Bluetooth 4.2 and BLE are built in.
Is there a version with a soldered GPIO header?
Yes, the Raspberry Pi Zero 2 WH comes with the 40-pin header already soldered.
