The official Raspberry Pi Zero case protects your Pi Zero without adding bulk, and adapts to your project thanks to its three interchangeable lids : solid for a discreet server, open over the GPIO to connect wires, or with a hole for a camera module. A short camera ribbon cable is even supplied.
Highlights
- Three lids in the box : solid, GPIO access and camera.

- Base with cutout giving access to the GPIO.
- Four rubber feet for a steady grip on the desk.
- Official design matching the rest of the Raspberry Pi range.
Features
| Element | Official detail |
|---|---|
| Construction | Two parts: a base and a lid of your choice |
| Lids | 3: solid, GPIO (access from the top), camera |
| Accessories supplied | 1 short camera ribbon cable, 4 rubber feet |
| Compatible boards | Raspberry Pi Zero, Zero W and Zero 2 W |
| Compatible cameras (camera lid) | Camera Module 1 and 2, standard and NoIR versions |
Which one should you choose?
| Housing | Material | Key strength | For whom |
|---|---|---|---|
| Official Zero case (this product) | Plastic | 3 lids + camera ribbon cable | Camera, GPIO or discreet server projects |
| Flirc Pi Zero case | Aluminum | Passive heat dissipation through the case | Zero 2 W under continuous load |
| Pibow Zero 2W case | Layered acrylic | Colourful, slim look | Visible projects, teaching |
Our advice : for a camera or tool-free GPIO access, the official case is the most versatile. For a heavily loaded Zero 2 W, choose an aluminium case.
Compatibility and pitfalls to avoid
- Boards : Pi Zero, Raspberry Pi Zero W and Zero 2 W.
- Camera Module 3 not compatible with the camera lid: it is taller than the v1 and v2 modules. Choose a Camera Module v2 8 MP.
- Original 2016 Pi Zero : it has no camera connector, so the camera lid is of no use to it.
Why put your Raspberry Pi in a case?
The official Raspberry Pi safety instructions say not to place a running board on a conductive surface and to handle it with care to avoid mechanical and electrostatic damage. A case solves all three points at once: no more accidental short circuits with a metal object, no more components torn off in a bag, less dust on the board.
