Description
Raspberry Pi PoE Injector (PoE+): add 30 W without changing your switch
The Raspberry Pi PoE+ Injector adds Power over Ethernet to one port of a standard switch (non-PoE). It connects between the switch and your Raspberry Pi, and sends data and power over a single RJ45 cableup to 30 W in line with the IEEE 802.3af and 802.3at standards. On the Pi side, a PoE HAT is required to draw this power.
Highlights
- 30 W PoE+ on a single port : enough for a Raspberry Pi fitted with its PoE+ HAT.
- Network up to 1 Gb/s : data passes through at 10/100/1000 Mb/s, with no loss of throughput.
- Step-by-step installation : add PoE where you need it, without replacing your switch.
- Compatible with all generations of Raspberry Pi PoE HATs, according to Raspberry Pi.
- Long-term product : production guaranteed until at least January 2034.

Which one should you choose?
| Solution | Principle | Who is it for? |
|---|---|---|
| PoE+ Injector (this product) | adds PoE to one port of an existing switch | 1 or 2 Pis, network already in place |
| TP-Link 4-port PoE+ switch | switch that powers several ports directly | several Pis or PoE cameras |
| PoE to USB-C 5 V 4 A splitter | takes PoE at the device end and outputs USB-C | board without a PoE HAT |
For a single Pi, the injector is the simplest solution. From three or four devices, a PoE+ switch becomes more practical.
Compatibility and pitfalls
- The Pi is not natively PoE : a PoE HAT is required. On Pi 4 and Pi 3 B+, the Raspberry Pi PoE+ HAT is suitable.
- Raspberry Pi 5 : use a Pi 5 compatible PoE HAT, such as the PoE+ HAT for Raspberry Pi 5 compatible with the official case.
- Pi 3 : only the Pi 3 B+ has the PoE pins; the Pi 3 B cannot be powered this way.
- Connection direction : one cable from the non-PoE switch to the injector's data input, one cable from the PoE output to the Pi. Do not add it after a switch that already provides PoE.
- IEC C13 power cord not supplied : a PC or monitor style power cord is required.
Recommended accessories
- RJ45 CAT6 Ethernet cable: to connect the injector to the Pi and to the switch.
- HAT PoE for Raspberry Pi 5 : another option for powering a Pi 5 through the network cable.
Uses and projects
- Surveillance camera or outdoor sensor, where there is no mains socket.
- Rack server with a single cable per Pi.
- Digital signage behind a wall-mounted screen.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a PoE HAT with the injector?
Yes. The Raspberry Pi cannot draw power from the network cable on its own: a PoE HAT compatible with your model is required.
Does the injector work with a Raspberry Pi 5?
Yes, with a Pi 5 compatible PoE HAT and within the power rating of the chosen HAT.
How much power does it deliver?
30 W on one port, IEEE 802.3at (PoE+), compatible with 802.3af.
Is the power cord included?
No, you will need an IEC C13 power cord.
Does it slow down the network?
No, it passes data through at up to 1 Gb/s.
Can it be connected after a PoE switch?
That is not its purpose: it is designed to add PoE to a switch that does not have it.
