Description
IQaudio DigiAMP+: the 2 × 35 W amplifier HAT for Raspberry Pi
Connect two passive speakers directly to your Raspberry Pi: the DigiAMP+, designed by IQaudio and now produced by Raspberry Pi, combines a 24-bit / 192 kHz digital-to-analogue converter and a stereo amplifier delivering up to 35 W per channel on a single HAT board. With a 12 to 24 V power supply, it also powers the Raspberry Pi: one single adapter for the whole hi-fi system.
Highlights
- Texas Instruments TAS5756M PowerDAC : digital conversion and amplification in a single component.
- Up to 2 × 35 W into passive speakers, with adjustable hardware volume.
- A single power supply : the HAT supplies 5.1 V at 2.5 A to the Raspberry Pi through the GPIO.
- Plug and play : the onboard EEPROM lets Raspberry Pi OS recognise the board automatically.
- Controllable mute : the amp starts muted and is controlled by software via GPIO 22.

Which one should you choose?
| Audio board | Component | Outputs | Power supply | For whom |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| DigiAMP+ (this product) | TAS5756M | 2 passive speakers up to 35 W | External 12 to 24 V | Passive speakers without an amp |
| IQaudio DAC+ | PCM5122, 24-bit / 192 kHz | RCA line + 3.5 mm headphones | From the Raspberry Pi | Hi-fi system or active speakers |
| IQaudio DAC Pro | PCM5242, 24-bit / 192 kHz | RCA, headphones, balanced output | From the Raspberry Pi | Audiophiles, optional XLR output |
| Codec Zero | DA7212, 24-bit / 96 kHz | 1.2 W mono speaker, microphone | From the Raspberry Pi | Compact voice projects |
Our advice : if you have passive speakers, choose the DigiAMP+. If you already have an amplifier or active speakers, a DAC is enough.
Compatibility and pitfalls to avoid
- External power supply required, not included: a 12 to 24 V DC adapter rated for 3 A, with a 5.5 × 2.5 mm plug.
- Never power the Raspberry Pi through its own port when the DigiAMP+ is connected: the HAT takes care of it.
- Pi 4 and Pi 5 : the DigiAMP+ was designed around the Pi 3. On a Raspberry Pi 4 or a Raspberry Pi 5, connect power-hungry USB devices to a separately powered USB hub to avoid the undervoltage warning.
- Only one I2S audio HAT at a time: it cannot be stacked with another DAC.
- Passive speakers only : do not connect active speakers or headphones to the terminal blocks.
- Black IQaudIO or green Raspberry Pi board : they are electrically equivalent, only the EEPROM memory differs.
What's in the box
The DigiAMP+ board and the mounting hardware (standoffs, screws and connectors), according to the official documentation. Power supply and speakers not included.
Recommended accessories
- The Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ : the platform the DigiAMP+ was designed for, with no USB constraints.
- A SanDisk Ultra micro SD card for the system and your playback software.
- The Raspberry Pi 4 Model B 4 GB if you also want to decode video or host your music library.
Uses and projects
Network player for bookshelf speakers, in-store sound system, internet radio, multiroom system: the DigiAMP+ turns a Raspberry Pi into a connected amp. For the software side, read our guide multimedia streaming system on Raspberry Pi.
Frequently asked questions
Which power supply should I choose for the DigiAMP+?
A 12 to 24 V DC adapter able to deliver 3 A, with a 5.5 × 2.5 mm plug. It powers both the amplifier and the Raspberry Pi.
Does the DigiAMP+ power the Raspberry Pi?
Yes, it supplies 5.1 V at 2.5 A to the Pi through the GPIO header. Do not connect a power supply to the Pi at the same time.
Is it compatible with the Raspberry Pi 5?
It fits any Pi with a 40-pin GPIO. On the Pi 4 and Pi 5, power your power-hungry USB devices through a powered hub.
Why is there no sound at startup?
The amplifier starts muted: the software re-enables it via GPIO 22.
Are IQaudio and Raspberry Pi the same product?
Yes. Raspberry Pi took over the IQaudio range; the black IQaudIO boards and the green Raspberry Pi boards are electrically equivalent.
Can I connect headphones?
No, the DigiAMP+ has no headphone output. For headphones, choose the DAC+ or the DAC Pro.
