PiJuice HAT: the PiJuice battery UPS that makes your Raspberry Pi self-powered
The PiJuice HAT is a HAT-format power board that adds to your Raspberry Pi a 1,820 mAh Li-Ion batterya power management microcontroller and a real-time clock (RTC) with wake-up alarm. If mains power fails, it takes over and allows a clean shutdown; it can also turn the board back on at a set time or when power returns. It is the accessory for mobile and solar projects, or installations far from a power outlet.

Compatibility: which Raspberry Pi models?
The official PiJuice hardware documentation covers the Raspberry Pi 3 (B and B+) and Raspberry Pi Zero. These are the boards we recommend it for.
- Raspberry Pi 4 : not listed in the official documentation. More importantly, with the original battery, the 5 V output peaks at around 1.1 A, which is not enough for a Pi 4 under load (it requires a 3 A power supply). We do not recommend it for this use.
- Raspberry Pi 5 : not documented, do not use it with the PiJuice HAT.
- Battery life : it depends entirely on the power consumption of the board and peripherals; measure your setup rather than relying on a theoretical runtime.

- The Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ : an officially supported board, power-efficient and well suited to battery operation.
- The Raspberry Pi Zero W : very low power consumption, to maximize battery life.

Frequently asked questions
Does the PiJuice HAT work with the Raspberry Pi 4?
It is not listed in the official documentation, and the included battery only delivers about 1.1 A at 5 V, too little for a loaded Pi 4. We recommend it for the Raspberry Pi 3 and Zero.
And with the Raspberry Pi 5?
No, the Raspberry Pi 5 is not supported by the PiJuice documentation.
Can it be recharged with a solar panel?
Yes, via the J4 input (4.2 to 10 V) or the micro-USB. The manufacturer only supports its official solar panels on the J4 input.
What is the difference between PiJuice HAT and PiJuice Zero?
The PiJuice Zero is a compact version in Zero format, with a J2 connector for an external Li-Po battery. The HAT carries the BP7X battery and a screw terminal for a larger battery.
Can I stack another HAT?
Yes, the PiJuice passes through the GPIO pins, but check that no pin used by the PiJuice (I2C in particular) conflicts.
