Description
Argon ONE V5 for Raspberry Pi 5: the upgradable aluminium case
L'Argon ONE V5 is the new generation of the Argon ONE case for the Raspberry Pi 5. Its aluminium moulé shell acts as a heatsink, a 30 mm PWM fan takes over under load, and it adds what the Pi 5 lacks: two full-size HDMI ports, an audio DAC with mic and headphone jacks, two front USB ports and an internal port for Zigbee home automation. This version runs on a microSD card; NVMe storage remains an option.
Highlights
- Cast aluminum heatsink : the entire shell draws heat away from the Raspberry Pi 5.
- Built-in 30 mm PWM fan : active cooling under heavy load, regulated by the Argon script.
- Two full-size HDMI ports at the rear: two high-resolution displays, with standard cables.
- HS100B audio DAC with 3.5 mm mic and headphone jacks, ideal for video calls.
- Two front USB 2.0 ports for a flash drive or a keyboard without reaching behind.
- Internal USB port for a Zigbee module : perfect for Home Assistant.
- Standard HAT compatibility and power button.

Which one should you choose?
| Model | Storage | Key points | Ideal for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Argon ONE V5 | microSD | DAC, front USB, internal Zigbee | office work, media center |
| Argon ONE V5 M.2 NVMe | 1 built-in NVMe SSD | same features + SSD | Home Assistant, Docker, intensive use |
| Argon ONE V3 | microSD, NVMe as an option | IR receiver, dual HDMI | remote-controlled media center |
| Argon NEO 5 | microSD | compact, 30 mm fan | small form factor, controlled budget |
Our advice: the V5 is ideal if a microSD card is enough for you. If you plan to use an SSD, the M.2 NVMe version saves you from buying the expansion later.
Compatibility and pitfalls to avoid
- No SSD in this version : the M.2 NVMe slot is an Argon40 option; for an SSD from the start, choose the NVMe version.
- Cooling already included : do not add an Active Cooler, the case and its fan take care of it.
- Argon script : install it to set the fan curve and the button functions.
- Zigbee : the internal USB port is designed for the Argon Industria module.
- Raspberry Pi 5 only : the Pi 4 uses the Argon ONE V2 or M.2.
Recommended accessories
- The official 27 W USB-C power supply : essential for the Pi 5 and the USB ports.
- The Argon Industria Zigbee module for the internal USB port.
- A SanDisk Ultra microSD card for the system.
- The official HDMI cable, suited to the full-size outputs.
- The Raspberry Pi 5 8 GB for a complete setup.
Uses and projects
- Office station with dual screens: see whether the Raspberry Pi 5 is enough for office work.
- Video conferencing with a headset plugged directly into the DAC.
- Home automation box Home Assistant with the internal Zigbee module.
- Media center Kodi or LibreELEC over full-size HDMI.

Frequently asked questions
Does the Argon ONE V5 accept an NVMe SSD?
Not in this version: the M.2 NVMe slot is an optional expansion. The Argon ONE V5 M.2 NVMe version includes it as standard.
What is the difference between the Argon ONE V3 and the V5?
The V5 adds a DAC with mic and headphone jacks, two front USB 2.0 ports, an internal USB port for Zigbee and standard HAT compatibility. The V3 keeps an infrared receiver.
Is the fan noisy?
It is PWM-controlled: it runs slowly at idle and speeds up under load. Its curve can be adjusted with the Argon script.
Can I use two screens?
Yes, thanks to the two full-size HDMI ports at the back.
Do I need to add extra cooling?
No, the aluminium shell and the 30 mm fan are enough.
Is the V5 suitable for the Raspberry Pi 4?
No, it is designed for the Raspberry Pi 5.
