Description

Argon ONE V5 M.2 NVMe: the most complete Raspberry Pi 5 case with built-in SSD

L'Argon ONE V5 with NVMe expansion brings together in a single aluminum case everything you expect from a real mini PC: an M.2 NVMe slot to boot from SSD, a PWM fan, two full-size HDMI, an audio DAC, front USB ports and an internal port for Zigbee home automation. It is the most popular version of the V5 range for Raspberry Pi 5 setups that need to be fast and versatile.

Highlights

  • Built-in M.2 NVMe slot : M key SSD up to the 2280 format, with boot and applications much faster than on microSD.
  • Cast aluminum heatsink : the entire shell draws heat away from the Raspberry Pi 5.
  • Built-in 30 mm PWM fan : active cooling under heavy load, regulated by the Argon script.
  • Two full-size HDMI ports at the rear: two high-resolution displays, with standard cables.
  • HS100B audio DAC with 3.5 mm mic and headphone jacks, ideal for video calls.
  • Two front USB 2.0 ports for a flash drive or a keyboard without reaching behind.
  • Internal USB port for a Zigbee module : perfect for Home Assistant.
  • Standard HAT compatibility and power button.

Which one should you choose?

Model NVMe Audio and front USB Ideal for
Argon ONE V5 NVMe 1 built-in slot yes complete mini PC, Home Assistant, Docker
Argon ONE V5 without NVMe no (expansion optional) yes office and multimedia on microSD
Argon ONE V3 optional no dual HDMI, IR receiver
Argon NEO 5 NVMe 1 slot no more compact format

Our advice: if in doubt, go straight for the NVMe version. Booting from SSD transforms the Pi 5 experience, and the slot is already built into the bottom of the case.

Compatibility and pitfalls to avoid

  • NVMe SSD only : M.2 SATA SSDs do not work. Argon40 publishes a list of tested drives (Argon Dataterm, official Raspberry Pi SSD, WD SN740 and SN580, Samsung 980, Kingston KC3000, Crucial P2 and others).
  • SSD power consumption : the Pi 5's PCIe port has a limited power budget; avoid very high-end, power-hungry SSDs.
  • Power supply : use a 27 W USB-C power supply, especially with an SSD, the DAC and USB peripherals.
  • Advanced features : the fan and button are configured with the official Argon script, installed with a single command.
  • Raspberry Pi 5 only : for a Pi 4, the Argon ONE V2 and M.2 family is the dedicated option.

Recommended accessories

Uses and projects

  • Home automation box Home Assistant on SSD with built-in Zigbee.
  • Desktop mini PC dual display, mic and headphones for video calls.
  • Docker server : Nextcloud, Jellyfin, Immich or Pi-hole.
  • Retro gaming station with a large library on SSD.
