Description
Official Raspberry Pi 5 case: built-in fan and access to all ports
The official Raspberry Pi 5 case is much more than a shell: it includes a temperature-controlled fan, connected to the board's dedicated header, and a heatsink to stick on the processor. Your Raspberry Pi 5 thus stays at a comfortable temperature even under heavy load. Its cutouts leave all ports accessible, its lid comes off for access to the GPIO, and several cases can be stacked.
Highlights
- Integrated active cooling : PWM fan with tachometer, up to 8,000 rpm and 2.79 CFM.
- Heatsink included measuring 12 x 17 x 4 mm with an adhesive pad for the processor.
- Removable lid : access to the fan, the GPIO and the cable openings.
- Stackable : mounting points provided to stack several cases.
- Power button accessible from the case.
- Tool-free assembly in a few minutes, four silicone feet included.
- Guaranteed production until at least January 2036.

The official case is the best compromise for most uses. For an SSD, note that it accommodates the M.2 HAT+ Compact. Discover other models in our Raspberry Pi 5 case comparison.
Compatibility and pitfalls
- Raspberry Pi 5 only : not suitable for the Raspberry Pi 4.
- No additional Active Cooler : the case fan uses the board's FAN header.
- SSD NVMe : the M.2 HAT+ Compact fits with the fan; the standard M.2 HAT+ requires removing the lid and the fan.
- HAT : mount on top with standoffs and a GPIO riser, not included.
- Connecting the fan : check the connector orientation before pushing it in.
Step-by-step mounting
- Stick the heatsink on the Raspberry Pi 5 processor after removing its film, pressing firmly for good adhesion.
- Stick the four silicone feet under the base.
- Unclip the frame holding the fan, lay the board flat in the base, under the tab on the microSD card side.
- Connect the fan cable to the 4-pin header marked FAN, the right way round and all the way in.
- Clip the frame back onto the base, connect your cables and power up.
The fan assembly can be removed from the frame if you prefer to use the case without active cooling.
Recommended accessories
- M.2 HAT+ Compact : 2230 NVMe SSD inside the case.
- Raspberry Pi 5 8GB : the board to install.
- Official 27 W USB-C power supply : matching the case.
- Mounting screw kit: to attach a HAT to the case.
Uses and projects
- Desktop workstation silent at idle, ventilated under load.
- Home server or Home Assistant running continuously.
- Small cluster thanks to the stackable cases.

Frequently asked questions
Is the official Raspberry Pi 5 case ventilated?
Yes, it includes a fan controlled by the board according to temperature, plus a heatsink for the processor.
Do I need to add the Active Cooler?
No, both connect to the same fan header; the case is enough.
Can I fit an NVMe SSD in it?
Yes, with the M.2 HAT+ Compact and a 2230 SSD, with the fan staying in place.
Is the power button still usable?
Yes, the case lets you turn the Raspberry Pi 5 on and off.
Can several cases be stacked?
Yes, mounting points are provided to stack the cases.
Is the fan noisy?
It stays slow or stopped at low load and only speeds up when the temperature rises.
