Description

Argon NEO 5 case for Raspberry Pi 5: aluminum and fan in a compact format

L'Argon NEO 5 has been redesigned to meet the thermal needs of the Raspberry Pi 5. Its finned aluminum shell acts as a heatsink, air intakes let fresh air in and a 30 mm PWM fan expels the hot air. Compact, assembled in three parts and fitted with a power button, it is one of the best-balanced Pi 5 cases in terms of protection, cooling and footprint.

Highlights

  • Passive and active cooling : fins, air intakes and 30 mm PWM fan.
  • Quality aluminum that protects the board from knocks.
  • Screwed, removable top cover : the ports are protected and all remain accessible once the cover is removed.
  • Built-in power button and LED display.
  • Optional microSD card cover to protect your data.
  • Mounting points to install the case on a bracket.

Which one should you choose?

Model NVMe Cooling Ideal for
Argon NEO 5 non aluminum + 30 mm fan compact Pi 5 on microSD
Argon NEO 5 M.2 NVMe 1 slot identical + SSD heatsink server or home automation box on SSD
Flirc Raspberry Pi 5 non passive only living room, total silence
Argon Poly+ 5 non to be added HATs, tight budget

Our advice: if an SSD is in your plans, even in the medium term, go straight for the NEO 5 M.2 NVMe. Otherwise, the NEO 5 is the ideal choice for a well-cooled, discreet Pi 5. The face-off with the Flirc is detailed in our Flirc 5 versus Argon NEO 5 comparison.

Compatibility and pitfalls to avoid

  • Raspberry Pi 5 only : for a Pi 4, see the dedicated Argon NEO.
  • Cooling included : do not add the official Active Cooler on top of the case fan.
  • No NVMe SSD in this version.
  • Video outputs : the Pi 5 keeps its micro-HDMI ports; get the right cable.
  • Power supply : a 27 W USB-C power supply avoids the Pi 5's USB current limitation.

Recommended accessories

  • The official 27 W USB-C power supply : the 5 A the Pi 5 expects.
  • The official micro-HDMI to HDMI cable for your screen.
  • A SanDisk Ultra microSD card for the system.
  • The Raspberry Pi 5 8 GB if you are building a complete setup.

Uses and projects

  • Home automation box Compact, reliable Home Assistant.
  • Pi-hole or VPN server installed on a bracket using the mounting points.
  • Linux desktop or development machine.
  • retro gaming console kept cool.
