Main features
The V3 camera module offers a host of features to meet your needs for high-resolution image and video capture:
- Sony IMX708 sensor: Equipped with a high-quality image sensor, the module ensures sharp, detailed images.
- Improved autofocus: Phase-detection autofocus ensures fast, precise focusing for impeccable shots every time.
- HDR mode: HDR mode lets you capture photos and videos with an extended dynamic range, delivering realistic, detailed results even in bright or low-light conditions.
- I2C control: The IMX708 sensor is equipped with an I2C-controllable focus actuator, offering additional flexibility in focus adjustment.
HDR mode explained
HDR (High Dynamic Range) mode is a technology that allows you to capture a series of images of the same scene at different exposures, then combine them to obtain a single image with an extended dynamic range. This technique preserves details in both bright and dark areas of the image, delivering results that are more faithful to reality. Thanks to the V3 camera module's HDR mode, you can capture images rich in detail, with vibrant colors and high contrast, whatever the lighting conditions.
Resources and Compatibility
The V3 camera module is compatible with all Raspberry Pi models, with the exception of the Raspberry Pi 400 and the 2016 launch version of the Zero. For use with the Raspberry Pi 5, a specific ribbon cable is required. What's more, the module is compatible with the Raspberry Pi Picamera2 Python library, offering easy integration into your development projects.
For optimum configuration, we recommend using libcamera-still software from 06/01/2023 on Pi OS 32-bit Buster (desktop version to be updated). For Zero models, a specific camera cable for Raspberry Pi Zero is required.
The V3 camera module is supplied with a 200 mm connector ribbon and a 15 × 1 mm FPC cable connector for easy installation on your Raspberry Pi.
