Description
The ventilated ABS case kit with 3.5″ touchscreen for Raspberry Pi 5 (ref. LT-RPI5BC16B, Lonten brand) brings together a protective case, a small resistive touchscreen and an active cooling system in a single package. It turns a bare Raspberry Pi 5 board into a compact terminal, able to display information and accept commands by finger or stylus, without an external screen or keyboard.
The Raspberry Pi 5 runs noticeably hotter than its predecessors when it works at full load for long periods. A closed case without ventilation quickly causes the processor to throttle. This kit was designed to avoid that compromise: the screen sits in the lid while a PWM fan and a heatsink draw heat away from the SoC. You gain a permanent control display without sacrificing performance.
The form factor remains compact and fits easily on a desk, in a technical cabinet or next to a 3D printer. It is a practical base for a home automation dashboard, a system monitor or a small control interface.
Key features of the kit
- Built-in 3.5-inch touchscreen in the case lid, usable by finger or with the supplied stylus.
- Active cooling : PWM fan and heatsink included, to keep the Raspberry Pi 5 at the right temperature under load.
- Sturdy ABS case, assembled in a few minutes thanks to snap-fit mounting and the supplied screws.
- Transparent power switch with built-in indicator light, to see at a glance whether the board is powered on.
- Designed specifically for the Raspberry Pi 5 : the cutouts match the connector layout of this board.
- Complete kit : case, screen, stylus, fan, heatsink and fasteners together in a single product.

Practical use cases
This kit is useful wherever a small local display comes in handy, without tying up a monitor:
- Smart home dashboard : display of Home Assistant status, temperatures or power consumption, with a few touch buttons for the most-used scenes.
- Server monitor : CPU load, temperature, IP address, disk space of a home server, a NAS or a network ad blocker such as Pi-hole.
- 3D printer control : lightweight interface to follow a print or send a command without opening a browser.
- Weather or data acquisition station : direct reading of measurements from sensors connected to the board.
- Educational projects : introduction to Python, simple graphical interfaces and the SPI bus, with immediately visible results.
A 3.5″ SPI screen is made to display text, gauges and menus. It is not suitable for video playback or comfortable office use: for those needs, a larger HDMI or DSI screen is preferable.
Compatibility and what you need to know
Board not included. The kit does not include the Raspberry Pi 5, the power supply or the microSD card. Plan for a USB-C power supply suited to the Raspberry Pi 5, preferably the official 27 W power supply, and a microSD card with Raspberry Pi OS.
Raspberry Pi 5 only. The case is not compatible with the Raspberry Pi 4 or older models: the port positions differ and the cutouts would not match.
Setting up the screen. The screen communicates over SPI via the GPIO header. You need to enable the SPI interface in the Raspberry Pi configuration (raspi-config tool or desktop configuration menu), then install the screen driver following the manufacturer's procedure. We recommend starting from a fresh installation of Raspberry Pi OS and running updates before configuring the display.
GPIO partially occupied. Once the screen is in place, some of the GPIO pins are used by the display and the touch panel. Keep this in mind if you plan to connect other modules or sensors to the header.
Resistive touch. Unlike a smartphone, the panel responds to pressure rather than a light touch. It does not support multi-touch. The supplied stylus provides greater precision on small interface elements, and calibration may be required on first use.

Frequently asked questions
Is this kit compatible with the Raspberry Pi 4?
No. The case is designed for the Raspberry Pi 5 and its cutouts follow the connector positions of this board. For a Raspberry Pi 4, you need a case designed for that model.
Do I need to install a driver for the screen?
Yes. Since the screen is connected over SPI, you need to enable this interface and then install the corresponding driver following the manufacturer's procedure. Once configured, Raspberry Pi OS can display the desktop or a dedicated application on it.
Is the fan noisy?
It is a PWM fan: its speed can be controlled according to temperature. At idle or under light load, it spins slowly or stops, which limits noise in an office.
Can I play videos on this screen?
That is not its intended use. The SPI link limits the refresh rate: the screen is suited to menus, gauges and text. The Raspberry Pi 5's micro HDMI outputs remain accessible for connecting a standard monitor.
