Description
Raspberry Pi 2 Model B: the quad-core board in B+ format
The Raspberry Pi 2 Model B is the first Raspberry Pi with four cores and 1 GB of memory. It keeps the form factor and connectors of the Raspberry Pi 1 B+, making it a reference board for replacing an existing model in a project, a case or an industrial installation without changing anything, or for learning programming and electronics.
Highlights
- Four cores at 900 MHz and 1 GB of RAM.
- Standard B+ format : same mounting holes and same connector layout as the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B.
- Full connectivity : 4 USB 2.0 ports, Ethernet, full-size HDMI, audio and composite video jack.
- 40-pin GPIO compatible with HATs and the vast ecosystem of Raspberry Pi add-ons.
- CSI camera and DSI display ports for the first-generation official camera and display.

|---|---|
| Processor | Revision 1.1: BCM2836, 4 Cortex-A7 cores at 900 MHz; revision 1.2: BCM2837, 4 Cortex-A53 cores at 900 MHz; revision 1.3: BCM2837B0 |
| Memory | 1 GB |
| USB | 4 x USB 2.0 |
| Network | 100 Mb/s Ethernet RJ45, no Wi-Fi or Bluetooth |
| Video | Standard HDMI, composite video via the jack socket |
| Audio | 3.5 mm audio and video jack |
| Expansion | 40-pin GPIO, 15-pin CSI camera port, 15-pin DSI display port |
| Storage | microSD card reader |
| Power supply | Micro-USB 5 V; official 2.5 A power supply recommended by Raspberry Pi |
Compatibility and points to watch
- No wireless : the Raspberry Pi 2 has neither Wi-Fi nor Bluetooth. You need to use Ethernet or add a USB dongle.
- 100 Mb/s Ethernet rather than Gigabit: enough for home automation or a light server, limiting for a NAS.
- Revisions : revisions 1.1 and 1.2 reached end of life on 16 October 2025 due to the discontinuation of their processor; Raspberry Pi recommends revision 1.3, same form factor, fitted with a BCM2837B0.
- Operating system : use the 32-bit version of Raspberry Pi OS, compatible with all models, written to the microSD card with Raspberry Pi Imager.
Recommended accessories
- L'official Raspberry Pi 12.5 W micro-USB power supply (5 V 2.5 A), the model recommended by Raspberry Pi for the Pi 1, 2 and 3.
- The official case for Raspberry Pi 3B+, Pi 3 and Pi 2, designed for this form factor.
- A câble HDMI officiel Raspberry Pi : the Pi 2 has a full-size HDMI socket, no adapter is needed.
- A SanDisk Ultra microSD card for the system.
Need built-in Wi-Fi and more power in the same form factor? The Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ is the direct successor. The whole family is gathered in the category Raspberry Pi 3 and Pi 2.
Uses and projects
- Like-for-like replacement of a board in an existing installation.
- Learning of Linux, Python and electronics with the GPIO.
- Small network server over Ethernet: ad blocker, monitoring, print server.

Frequently asked questions
Does the Raspberry Pi 2 have Wi-Fi?
No. Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth arrived with the Raspberry Pi 3.
Which processor does the Raspberry Pi 2 Model B use?
It depends on the revision: BCM2836 (Cortex-A7) on 1.1, BCM2837 (Cortex-A53) on 1.2, both at 900 MHz, and BCM2837B0 on revision 1.3.
Which power supply for a Raspberry Pi 2?
A good-quality 5 V micro-USB power supply; Raspberry Pi recommends its 2.5 A power supply for models 1, 2 and 3.
Raspberry Pi 2 or Raspberry Pi 3?
The Pi 2 is suited to replacing an identical board. For a new project, the Pi 3 Model B+ adds Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and a faster processor in the same form factor.
