Raspberry Pi is the go-to reference for all technology enthusiasts, from education to engineering. Created to make computing and programming accessible to everyone, the Raspberry Pi range offers powerful, compact and affordable single-board computers (SBCs). These versatile devices are perfect for a wide range of applications, whether educational projects, prototyping or integration into embedded systems. Discover how Raspberry Pi can become the heart of your technology projects.

History and Philosophy

A technological revolution:

Raspberry Pi was born from a simple but ambitious idea: to make computing accessible to all, especially young students. In the late 2000s, Eben Upton, co-founder of the Raspberry Pi Foundation, and his colleagues at the University of Cambridge became concerned about the falling number of students applying to study computer science. They attributed this decline to the evolution of personal computers, which had increasingly become tools for consumption rather than creation.

It was against this background that the idea of the Raspberry Pi emerged. The aim was to create a low-cost single-board computer (SBC) that would allow children, as well as technology enthusiasts, to get to grips with programming and computer hardware. In 2012, after several years of development and experimentation, the first Raspberry Pi Model B was launched, meeting with immediate and unexpected success. This small computer, sold at an unbeatable price, offered enough capability to run a full version of Linux, making it a powerful tool for learning programming and creating a wide variety of technology projects.

Continuous evolution:

Since the launch of the first model, Raspberry Pi has grown exponentially. The foundation has continued to improve its products in response to users' needs, launching several improved versions of its SBC, including the Raspberry Pi 2, 3 and the very popular Raspberry Pi 4, which brought performance similar to that of a desktop computer at a price that remains as affordable as ever.

At the same time, the Raspberry Pi Foundation has committed to educational initiatives around the world, providing hardware, teaching resources and training programs to help teachers and students make the most of digital technologies.

A vision for the future:

Raspberry Pi's mission has not been limited to simply supplying computer hardware. The foundation has always aimed to support an active community of makers, teachers and developers, encouraging innovation at every level. Through partnerships with major technology companies and the introduction of new products, such as the Raspberry Pi Pico, a microcontroller focused on the Internet of Things (IoT) and embedded projects, Raspberry Pi continues to shape the global technology landscape.

With more than 40 million units sold worldwide, Raspberry Pi remains a symbol of innovation, accessibility and education. Whether for a personal project, an industrial application or an educational program, Raspberry Pi embodies the perfect fusion of technology, creativity and knowledge sharing.
