Description
OpenClaw Raspberry Pi: your AI assistant server on Raspberry Pi 5, ready to plug in
The OpenClaw Kit is a Raspberry Pi 5 preassembled in an aluminum Flirc case, supplied with OpenClaw preinstalled on a High Endurance microSD. It runs the OpenClaw Gateway 24/7 at your home: the open source AI assistant that answers you in your messaging apps and in its web interface, and can take action with tools and agents. All you have to do is connect it to your network.
How OpenClaw works, in plain terms
OpenClaw separates two things. Orchestration (sessions, memory, tools, credentials, messaging connections) runs on your Raspberry Pi: this data stays on your hardware. The language model, on the other hand, is a module you choose: a hosted provider via an API key, or a local model. The official documentation states that on a Raspberry Pi, models generally run in the cloud via an API, and your requests are then sent to the provider you configure.
Want nothing to leave your home? Pair the kit with a local model server, for example our Ollama local AI kit on Raspberry Pi 5 16 GB, and declare it as a provider in OpenClaw.
Highlights
- Turnkey : preassembled board, system configured, only the network connection remains to be done.
- Open source (MIT license), backed by an independent foundation: no paid plan or mandatory service on the OpenClaw side.
- Your usual channels : WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack, Discord, Signal, Google Chat and others, plus the Control UI web interface.
- State data at home : memory, history and credentials on your Raspberry Pi; telemetry limited by default to a daily version check, which can be disabled.
- Silent : passively cooled aluminum Flirc case, no fan.

2 GB or 16 GB: which version to choose?
- 2 GB : the OpenClaw documentation recommends at least 2 GB of RAM for the gateway. Suited to a personal or family assistant connected to a hosted model.
- 16 GB : headroom for several agents, browser automation, many tools and plugins, or a small local backup model.
Limitations and best practices
- No internal expansion : the Flirc case is closed, with no room for a HAT or an NVMe SSD.
- Model cost : OpenClaw is free, but a hosted model provider generally charges for usage.
- Security : treat incoming messages as untrusted; by default OpenClaw asks you to approve each new sender.
- Ethernet recommended for an always-reachable server. Need a longer cable? Here is our RJ45 CAT6 Ethernet cable.
Uses
- Personal assistant reachable from your messaging app: reminders, searches, summaries.
- Internal assistant for SMEs on hardware you control: read deploying a local AI server in an SME with Raspberry Pi 5.
- Automations and agents connected to your tools.
- 100% local chain with Ollama: see Ollama on Raspberry Pi, local AI.

Frequently asked questions
Can OpenClaw be installed on a Raspberry Pi?
Yes: OpenClaw officially documents hosting its gateway on Raspberry Pi 4 and 5 with 64-bit Raspberry Pi OS. This kit delivers the whole setup already installed.
Does OpenClaw work without Internet?
The gateway runs at your home, but it needs a language model. With a hosted provider, Internet access is required; with a local model on your network, the whole setup can stay local.
OpenClaw on Raspberry Pi 4?
The documentation supports it (4 GB recommended). The Raspberry Pi 5 in this kit is the platform recommended by OpenClaw for its speed.
How do I access OpenClaw?
Via the Control UI web interface from your browser on the local network, or by chatting with the assistant in the messaging apps you connect.
