Description
Flirc USB: the USB infrared receiver that turns your remote into a keyboard
The Flirc USB is a small infrared USB dongle that lets you control a media center, a Raspberry Pi or a computer with any infrared remote. You map each remote button to a keyboard key once using the Flirc software; the configuration is stored in the dongle, which then works on any device without software or drivers. It is the simplest way to control Kodi or LibreELEC from the couch.
Highlights
- Seen as a USB keyboard : no driver, compatible with any system that accepts a keyboard.
- All infrared remotes : universal remote, old player remote, TV remote with unused buttons.
- Configuration stored in the dongle : plug it into another device and it works immediately; the configuration can also be backed up or shared.
- Advanced features : macros, more than 500 storable keys, two functions per button (short press and long press), PC sleep and wake.
- Ready-to-use profiles for Kodi, Windows Media Center, NVIDIA Shield or multimedia keys.

Frequently asked questions
What is a USB infrared receiver for?
It picks up the signals from an infrared remote and passes them to the computer. The Flirc converts them into keystrokes, which makes it compatible with all applications.
Does the Flirc USB work with Kodi on Raspberry Pi?
Yes. Configure the dongle once with the Flirc software on a computer, choosing the Kodi profile, then plug it into the Raspberry Pi: Kodi receives the keys directly.
Can the Flirc be configured without a screen?
Yes, the command-line software, provided for Linux, macOS and Windows, offers the same functions as the graphical interface.
What is the range of the Flirc?
Up to about 6 m with most remotes, provided the dongle is in the remote's line of sight.
