Description

EDATEC ED-IPC1100: rugged, cost-effective industrial Raspberry Pi connectivity

L'EDATEC ED-IPC1100 is a low-cost industrial connectivity computer based on the Raspberry Pi Compute Module Zero (CM0). Housed in a compact, rugged aluminium alloy enclosure, it combines passive cooling (pre-applied thermal paste) and DIN rail mounting, bringing together durability and ease of deployment. While delivering measured computing power, it features a full set of industrial-grade interfaces: Ethernet, USB, HDMI, RS485, complemented on this version by 4G CAT-1the 2.4 GHz WiFi and the Bluetooth. Thanks to its built-in RTC and its hardware watchdog, it ensures reliable, continuous operation over the long term.

This reference ED-IPC1100-10008-4EU is configured with 8 GB of eMMC storagethe 4G CAT-1 module and a European plug power supply: a combination designed for connected deployments at remote or mobile sites.

The ED-IPC1100 targets a wide range of applications: industrial data acquisition, Bluetooth Mesh gateways, Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and 4G computing, with a particularly attractive cost/performance ratio. It shares the extensive Raspberry Pi software ecosystem and the stable Raspberry Pi OS operating system, and supports ready-to-use middleware such as CODESYS and Node-RED , significantly lowering development barriers and speeding up the commissioning of your projects.

A Raspberry Pi CM0 platform built for connectivity

At the heart of the ED-IPC1100 is the Raspberry Pi Compute Module Zero, built around a Broadcom quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 64-bit processor clocked at 1 GHz, backed by 512 MB of SDRAM and, on this version, 8 GB of eMMC storage. This sizing deliberately targets connectivity and data collection tasks rather than heavy computing: it is a very low-power field hub, not a workstation.

Important technical point on this configuration: fitted with a CM0 with eMMC, the device boots directly from its internal eMMC storage. The Micro SD slot on the enclosure can only be used for booting on CM0Lite-based variants (without eMMC); on the 8 GB eMMC version, this slot does not work for booting.

The device is compatible with Raspberry Pi OS (Desktop and Lite) in both 32-bit and 64-bit, with documented support up to Debian 13 (Trixie). For the onboard peripherals (RTC, watchdog, RS485, 4G module) to work properly, EDATEC provides a BSP and firmware package to install from its official apt repository: a simple, fully documented procedure.

End-to-end industrial connectivity

This is the real purpose of the ED-IPC1100: bridging heterogeneous field equipment and your network or cloud infrastructure. To do this, it combines:

  • 4G CAT-1 module (-4EU version) with Nano SIM slot and dedicated SMA antenna, for a standalone cellular link where there is no wired network.
  • RS485 on a 3-point Phoenix terminal block (GND/A/B), with a pre-installed 120 Ω termination resistor, to communicate via Modbus with PLCs, meters and third-party sensors.
  • 10/100 Mbps Ethernet for wired network connection.
  • 2.4 GHz WiFi and Bluetooth, with external SMA antenna for reliable reception.
  • 1080p30 HDMI output and dual USB 2.0 for configuration and local peripherals.
  • USB Type-C “PROGRAMMING” port for flashing the eMMC directly from a PC.

This wired + cellular + wireless versatility makes the ED-IPC1100 a single connectivity point for your acquisition chains, gateways and telemetry relays.

Designed for demanding environments

The ED-IPC1100 does not compromise on reliability:

  • Aluminium alloy enclosure promoting heat dissipation and passive cooling that is completely silent, with no fan or moving parts.
  • Wide 9-28V DC power input with reverse polarity protection, compatible with common industrial power sources.
  • Real-time clock (RTC) backed up by a 1F supercapacitor, ensuring reliable data timestamping even after a power cut.
  • hardware watchdog guaranteeing automatic restart in the event of a freeze, essential for unattended installations.
  • Built-in encryption chip for data security.
  • DIN rail mounting for immediate integration into an electrical cabinet.
  • Very low power consumption, in line with the CM0 series (peak of about 3.5 W on the sister model ED-IPC1000).

Ideal applications

The ED-IPC1100 is aimed at anyone who needs to connect, collect and transmit without deploying costly infrastructure:

  • Industrial data acquisition (sensors, meters, PLCs via RS485/Modbus).
  • IoT and Bluetooth Mesh gateway for sensor networks.
  • 4G relay and computing at remote or mobile sites.
  • Remote monitoring and telemetry (energy, environment, BMS).
  • Lightweight edge computing with Node-RED or CODESYS.
  • Integration in a technical cabinet on DIN rail.

For integrators and engineering firms, it is an open, cost-effective and reliableplatform that builds on Raspberry Pi tools and skills you already master.
