Description
Visit Dragino LWL04 is a wireless sensor designed to detect water leaks in various environments (homes, workshops, technical rooms), ideal for integration into a Raspberry Pi-based home automation system via LoRaWAN.
Simple, reliable detection
The sensor is equipped with three metal studs to its base. When they come into contact with water, a leak signal is triggered, transmitted immediately via the LoRaWAN network. No complex installation is required: simply place it on the ground, where a leak is most likely to occur.
Autonomous, sustainable design
Powered by a CR123A battery non-rechargeable (1500 mAh), it offers remarkable autonomy, up to 2 to 10 years according to the frequency of events and transmissions. Certified construction IP65 guarantees effective sealing against dust and water, suitable for humid environments.
LoRaWAN long-range communication
Compatible with the main LoRaWAN bands (EU868, US915, AS923, etc.), this sensor operates in class A and supports remote firmware updates. It sends :
- As soon as a leak is detected,
- Periodically to indicate status, measure autonomy, number of events and duration of last leak.
These transmissions are optimized to save energy while guaranteeing responsiveness.
Easy activation and visual feedback
The LWL04 can be activated or triggered using a magnet under the housingwithout needing to be opened. From Flashing LEDs visually indicate status - successful activation, transmission in progress, etc.
Home automation applications with Raspberry Pi
Integrated with a LoRaWAN gateway (hosted on a Raspberry Pi), the sensor becomes a key element in the construction of an intelligent system:
- Real-time alerts upon detection (via notifications, email, Home Assistant alerts).
- Automation : solenoid valve tripped, audible or visual alarm.
- Data history stored locally (leakage events, duration, frequency) to be used in a dashboard.
- Visualization via dashboard or user-friendly graphic interface.
Easy, discreet installation
Compact (≈ 133 × 102 × 38 mm), it can be discreetly positioned near sensitive areas (basements, laundry rooms, sanitary areas). The height of the studs can be adjusted to suit the surface. It can be installed in just a few moments, without the need for special tools.
Extended reliability & safety
The robustness of the LoRaWAN protocol provides an extensive, reliable connection, ideal even if the Wi-Fi network is unstable. The sensor remains operational for years without intervention - perfect for securing a home, second home or remote location.
Recommended uses
- Connected home Integrate the sensor with Home Assistant to monitor leaks in real time.
- Technical monitoring protect boilers, cabinets, parking lots, etc.
- Remote IoT projects Stand-alone installation with alerts and data logs.
- Intelligent routed detection launches scripts, voice alerts or SMS messages as soon as it is detected.
Conclusion
Visit Dragino LWL04 is a high-performance, self-contained, easy-to-install water leak detection solution. Perfectly adapted to a Raspberry Pi home automation system, it combines durability, extensive connectivity and simple integration to effectively protect sensitive installations against water damage.
