Description

Visit Dragino LDS02 is a wireless sensor designed to detect the opening and closing of a door or window - a classic "magnetic opening sensor" -, and transmit these events via the LoRaWAN. It integrates perfectly into a connected home system based on a Raspberry Pi.

Reliable basic function

The sensor comprises two elements: a block with a magnet, and the main module with a single-effect sensor (magnetic contacts). When they move away from each other beyond a certain threshold (~25 mm), an "open" message is sent.

Advanced transmission and logging

The module sends two types of messages via LoRaWAN:

  • A daily "keep-alive" message.
  • A "flash" message each time the door is opened or closed (if enabled), with the possibility of triggering an alarm if the door remains open too long.
It also stores the number of openings and the duration of last openingThis makes it possible to track usage over time.
These parameters can be configured via AT order or LoRaWAN parameters (e.g. configuring "open duration alarm").

Remarkable autonomy and simple energy

Powered by 2 AAA batteriesthe sensor offers an estimated autonomy of between 16,000 and 70,000 transmissionsor years of use, depending on the frequency of events.

Extended LoRaWAN compatibility

Complies with standard LoRaWAN v1.0.3 Class ALoRaWAN operates on numerous frequency bands (EU868, US915, etc.). Activation in a LoRaWAN network is done by OTAA (Over-The-Air Activation) via the keys supplied with the sensor, or as a replacement via AT commands. This makes it highly adaptable for multi-room or multi-building installations.

Simple installation and clear integration

Compact (≈ 69 × 29 × 15 mm, Weight ~50 g), it attaches easily to the door or window frame with a magnet and/or adhesive strips. No external power supply is required for installation, and neither opening nor mechanical assembly is complex.

Home automation with Raspberry Pi

Integrated into a local LoRaWAN server controlled by a Raspberry Pi (with Home Assistant, Node-RED or MQTT), it offers the following benefits:

  • Real-time alerts mobile, email, sound and light notifications as soon as it opens.
  • Intelligent automation : activations (lights, camera, alarm) on opening, or automated according to schedule.
  • Usage history graphs of number of openings, duration, active periods.
  • Enhanced safety door monitoring, alarm or automatic reminder.

Possible configurations and flexibility

  • Customize behavior via downlink or AT: reporting interval, event behavior, alarm activation/deactivation.
  • Firmware update via dedicated port (useful for correcting or improving sensitivity).
  • Various environments: housing, garage, office, logistics department, distributed installations.

Conclusion

Visit Dragino LDS02 is an elegant, robust, stand-alone solution for monitoring access in a home or business environment. Thanks to its LoRaWAN integration and management via Raspberry Pi, it enables reliable, scalable automation, security and visualization of door access.
