Home Assistant Green: the plug-and-play Home Assistant box
The Home Assistant Green, often called “HA Green”, is the official smart home box designed by Nabu Casa to run Home Assistant without installing anything. Plug in the power supply and the Ethernet cable, open the interface in your browser, and your smart home gateway is ready. It is aimed at anyone who wants a locally controlled connected home, without flashing a card or relying on a cloud.

Compatibility: what the Green can do, and what it needs
Right out of the box, Home Assistant discovers many of the devices on your Wi-Fi or Ethernet network: bulbs, plugs, speakers, routers, solar inverters, thermostats. Matter devices over Wi-Fi or Ethernet can also be added once the Matter integration is configured.
The pitfall to know about : the Green has no built-in Zigbee, Thread or Z-Wave radio. To control Zigbee sensors, you need to plug in a dedicated USB dongle. Likewise, the HDMI port is not used to display a dashboard: the interface is used from a browser or the Home Assistant mobile app. Finally, the Green must be connected via Ethernet to your Internet router or to a switch.
What else you need
- Sonoff Zigbee 3.0 Plus-E dongle : adds Zigbee through one of the Green's USB 2.0 ports; it is managed in Home Assistant with the ZHA integration or with Zigbee2MQTT.
- Zigbee sensors for your first automations, for example the Sonoff Zigbee door/window sensor for a door or a window, or the Sonoff Zigbee temperature and humidity sensor to monitor the comfort of a room.
- A longer RJ45 CAT6 Ethernet cable if the box has to be installed far from your router (a cable is already included).

- Security : receive a notification on your phone when a door opens.
- Heating : control thermostatic valves or a smart thermostat according to your schedule.

Frequently asked questions
Does the Home Assistant Green support Zigbee?
Not natively: it has no Zigbee radio. Simply add a USB Zigbee dongle to one of its two USB 2.0 ports to control your Zigbee sensors, plugs and bulbs.

Do I need a subscription?
No. Home Assistant runs locally without a subscription. The Home Assistant Cloud offer is optional: it simplifies remote access and voice assistant integration.
Can I connect a screen to the Green?
The HDMI port is reserved for diagnostics. For a wall-mounted dashboard, use a tablet or a screen connected to another device that displays the Home Assistant web interface.
