Description
Visit LR1302 is a LoRaWAN gateway module based on the Semtech SX1302specially designed to transform a Raspberry Pi into a complete LoRaWAN reception and management station. Thanks to its 8 simultaneous channelsIt can manage numerous connected sensors in parallel, guaranteeing reliable, robust communication for home automation and IoT projects.
Advanced radio architecture
The SX1302 is Semtech's latest generation of chipsets, optimized to offer :
- A very high sensitivity to -139 dBmThis ensures that even weak signals are detected.
- A transmitting power up to 26 dBmwhich considerably improves reach.
- Simultaneous management of 8 LoRa channelsto receive several messages at once without congestion.
This module is perfectly suited to frequency bands such as theEU868 and theUS915covering the majority of uses in Europe and North America.
HAT for Raspberry Pi included
The LR1302 is supplied with a HAT specially designed for Raspberry Pi. This HAT connects via the GPIO interface and integrates a mini-PCIe connector where the module is inserted. It also includes :
- A cooling fan activeThis guarantees stable performance even over long periods of use.
- A GPS module (GNSS)to provide the time synchronization required in certain LoRaWAN configurations.
- From Status LEDs (power, network activity, transmission and reception) for rapid visual feedback.
- A slot for button cell battery to keep certain data in memory during restarts.
Antennas included
The kit includes two external antennasconnected via SMA, to ensure optimized radio range. These antennas enhance signal reliability and enable the gateway to be installed in a variety of environments, from the home to the office to the connected greenhouse.
Installation and power supply
- Power supply The HAT can be powered directly by the Raspberry Pi or via its dedicated USB-C port.
- Compact size size: approx. 75 × 75 × 30 mm, easy to integrate into an electrical box or to mount on a DIN rail.
- Simple configuration Once the module has been inserted, the gateway is ready for use with LoRaWAN server software (ChirpStack, for example) installed on the Raspberry Pi.
Home automation applications with Raspberry Pi
The LR1302 is designed to become a central element of a connected home :
- Collecting data LoRa: recovers measurements from LoRa sensors (temperature, humidity, air quality, door opening, water leaks, etc.).
- Security integration of long-range sensors to monitor outbuildings, garages or remote areas.
- Automations Home Assistant: allows you to trigger actions via Home Assistant or Node-RED, such as opening a valve, sending an alarm or adjusting the heating according to environmental data.
- Historical tracking data collected can be stored in local databases (e.g. InfluxDB) and visualized with Grafana or on Home Assistant dashboards.
Benefits
- Solution turnkey with module, HAT, fan and antennas included.
- Compatible Raspberry Pi 3, 4 and 5.
- High radio performance (8 channels, high TX power and RX sensitivity).
- Ideal for setting up a domestic or semi-professional LoRaWAN gateway.
