If mains power fails, it takes over and allows a clean shutdown; it can also turn the board back on at a set time or when power returns. These are the boards we recommend it for.

Raspberry Pi 4 : not listed in the official documentation. More importantly, with the original battery, the 5 V output peaks at around 1.1 A, which is not enough for a Pi 4 under load (it requires a 3 A power supply). We do not recommend it for this use.

Raspberry Pi 5 : not documented, do not use it with the PiJuice HAT.

Battery life : it depends entirely on the power consumption of the board and peripherals; measure your setup rather than relying on a theoretical runtime.

What else you need

The Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ : an officially supported board, power-efficient and well suited to battery operation.

The Raspberry Pi Zero W : very low power consumption, to maximize battery life.

The official 12.5 W micro-USB power supply : 5.1 V 2.5 A, perfect for the PiJuice micro-USB input set to 2.5 A.

A SanDisk High Endurance microSD for data loggers that write continuously.

Uses and projects

Autonomous weather station powered by a solar panel, woken by the RTC for each reading: see our weather station guide.

Long-term time-lapse with scheduled shutdown and restart: make a time-lapse with the Raspberry Pi camera.

Passerelle IoT that survives brief power cuts and shuts down cleanly.

Robot or portable device without a power cable.

Discover other add-ons in the HATs for Raspberry Pi 3.

Frequently asked questions

Does the PiJuice HAT work with the Raspberry Pi 4?

It is not listed in the official documentation, and the included battery only delivers about 1.1 A at 5 V, too little for a loaded Pi 4. We recommend it for the Raspberry Pi 3 and Zero.

And with the Raspberry Pi 5?

No, the Raspberry Pi 5 is not supported by the PiJuice documentation.

Can it be recharged with a solar panel?

Yes, via the J4 input (4.2 to 10 V) or the micro-USB. The manufacturer only supports its official solar panels on the J4 input.

What is the difference between PiJuice HAT and PiJuice Zero?

The PiJuice Zero is a compact version in Zero format, with a J2 connector for an external Li-Po battery. The HAT carries the BP7X battery and a screw terminal for a larger battery.

Can I stack another HAT?

Yes, the PiJuice passes through the GPIO pins, but check that no pin used by the PiJuice (I2C in particular) conflicts.

Order with confidence: official, tested products, stock based in France, shipping within 24/48 h after receipt of payment, free pickup point delivery on orders from €200, returns within 14 days (with return authorization) and payment by Visa, Mastercard, PayPal, Apple Pay or Google Pay.

UPS 5 V / 2.5 A + RTC integrated

1,820 mAh expandable battery

Pi 4/3/Zero & HAT stackable

[408
24,29,34

post-25870","product","type-product","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","product_brand-pijuice","product_cat-hats-raspberry-pi-4","product_cat-hats-raspberry-pi-3-pi-2","product_cat-hats-raspberry-pi-zero","first","outofstock","taxable","shipping-taxable","purchasable","product-type-simple","add-to-wishlist-after_add_to_cart
["GET
